Food Bank

                     EFFECTIVE JUNE 1ST, 2018
OUR FOOD BANK ONLY WILL DISTRIBUTE FOOD ON                                                     2ND & 4TH THURSDAY'S ON EACH MONTH AT 1pm!!!

The numbers are in and we served 307 families, 881 individuals for the 2017. While we served less families this year, that does not mean we are winning the War on Hunger in Amherst County. But with the Lord's Guidance, Mercy, and the help of our generious partners, we are continuing to reach the needy of this county.

We would like to recognize the Churches who continue to support our efforts in feeding the hungry of this county:

They are Northminister Evangecial Presbyterian, Elon Presbyterian, Coolwell Presbyterian, New Beginnings Tabernacle, and Christ Community Church.

Without the unselfish donations from these churches we would not be able to continue this ministry.

We served 347 families, 987 individuals in 2015. We are averaging 29 familes a month.
We Served 322 familes, 836 individuals in 2016. We are averaging 26 familes a month.

Please keep us in your prayers.

In just the past four years we have served 1522 Families 4471 people, but there are so many more who need help!!!!!

The Food Bank of the First Baptist Church of Monroe began almost 25 years ago when Troy Lamm, who at the time was a member of the RA'S (Royal Ambassadors), challenged the church members to raise 1,000 cans of food for the needy in the community.  Lloyd Maddox stated the Baptist Men would match the amount of canned food raised.  And so it began, and we have continued to provide food for the needy in Amherst County ever since.

For a number of years we purchased food through the donations from the congregation, and with the help of other churches and civic organizations.  Beginning in 2012 we were accepted into the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank located in Lynchburg, VA.  The Blue Ridge Area Food Bank has really been a lifesaver for our food bank due to their low costs.

We will provide food for Amherst County families in need. These familes will be able to return to our food bank once every 6 months for food. You will have to provide a photo id, a working phone number, to receive the food. We will only fill orders for one family from a single address. Orders from multiple callers from the same address will not be filled.

Persons asking for food must call the church office at 434-929-3764 to place an order so their needs can be filled. All who request food should be at the church starting at 1:00pm on Thursday for the food distribution.
If you miss your appointment and do not call to reschedule before the Thursday 1pm distribution time, you will not be able to return for 6 months. We WILL NOT
call to remind you of your appointment. We are staffed by volunteers, and funded only through donations and not a budget item of the church.

Listed below are the number of households and and people we have served during 2018.
